my fear of needles
Ever since I was young I have been afraid of needles. My grandfather was a doctor and my father was always worried about my health. Sometimes my mom would take me to a doctor and then later my father would take me to my grandfather. So I felt like I was always going to the doctor. One time with my grandfather he gave me a bunch of shots, I guess they were vaccinations. My arm hurt so bad that I didn't want to straighten it, and it kept hurting for days. I remember playing a baseball game and holding the bat with only one arm. Our team lost that game, definitely. Whenever I see a needle, and especially when I see someone get an injection on TV or in a movie, I have to close my eyes because I feel sick. I can picture the needle inside of my, moving around in my blood. It feels very similar to being in a car that is about to crash. So, actually getting poked with a needle is still very frightening to me. I always have to warn my doctor if he wants to take my blood or give me a shot. I say something like "I'm afraid of needles, so I might pass out." Needles are disgusting. I'm also afraid that they are not clean. If someone pokes me with a dirty needle, I could get a terrible disease and die. My skin is closed for a reason, things should not go inside of me, including needles. I really hate needles.
